IMM Cologne 2010 Furniture Design Trends – What Stays?
IMM Cologne is the first furniture show of the year and just like with every year, it is the show that defines and sets the trends in designer furniture. This year, a good portion of the design trends from the year before remained, in lieu of their popularity and interior value.
The Color White – whether in a form of textiles, upholstery or finishes, White is still the cornerstone color for interior décor in 2010. Applied in a form of glossy or matte lacquer onto modern platform beds. In a form of leather or fabric upholstery on modern sofas and contemporary sectionals, or in a form of white glass on modern dining tables. The elegance, versatility and timelessness of white remains as one of the strongest elements in modern furniture and interiors.

Sideboards & Buffets – Buffets, sideboards and cupboards have become a necessary and key element of living and dining décor. Wanted for their essential practicality, sideboards have evolved from mere necessity into a décor driving and décor driven constituent. With beautiful silhouettes from leading European furniture designers, sideboards are great to display accessories, and personalize any space.

Modular Furniture – Convenient and practical, modular furniture solutions welcome change with zeal and comfort. In the modern living arena when spaces and needs tend to augment, modular seating, consoles that convert into dining tables or dining tables that become coffee tables in a swift movement have become a fundamental factor bordering necessity, guaranteeing longevity, versatility and, of course, modern design.

Rococo Design – ornate and highly detailed style of furniture interpreted in a form of curved legs on a dining table, patterned upholstery on a sofa or sectional, or an extravagant platform bed that simultaneously speaks of tradition and trends. Rococo or modern baroque is a trend that remains highly coveted by those who enjoy modern design and appreciate luxury and grandeur at the same time.

Stand Alone Pieces – Modern furniture and contemporary furnishings that have a beautiful 360 degree façade enabling them to be placed in the middle of the room. Italian leather sofas and sectionals with button tufted design on the back, contemporary upholstered beds that can be placed in the middle of the room, accents swivel chairs and chaise lounges that make a statement, dining chairs that have a design on their exterior and bookcases that can be used as room dividers.

I am in the process of designing a guest bedroom and I have chosen a deep blue silk for the curtains called Moonlight. I am putting a natural woven raffia roman shade on the window behind the curtains for some textural interest. The walls will be painted the same shade as the silk curtains: Benjamin Moore “Blue Gaspe”.
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

If you have a large living room and are planning to buy furniture for your room then sectional pieces are the best ones, because it is the piece of furniture that allows you to enjoy your time with your entire family. Sectional sofas are considered to be sensational and are the easiest solutions for furnishing large rooms.
Well spoken. I have to research more on this as it seems quite interesting.
