Purple and white palette for every room

Saturday, January 18th, 2014

Purple and violet are stunning colors that translate into strength and power, symbolizing grandeur, substance and formality.  In modern décor, this palette is often combined with a simplistic hue like pure white that truly helps to highlight its stimulating qualities and peaceful disposition.  Check out this color combo realized in the bedroom, living room and dining space.

The two-tone Sofia modern armchair and entirely violet colored Sofia leather sofa by Contempo offer textural and chromatic flexibility.  Similar combination is seen with Bonaldo’s Prora extension dining table that is paired with neo rococo Giuseppina dining chair in a translucent purple color as well as with Plana platform bed by Presotto that features a white lacquer finish and purple hued bedding and nightstands.

Patricia Urquiola’s Trademark

Friday, January 17th, 2014

Patricia Urquiola is one of the few international designers that has an unmistakable signature that is hard to overlook.  Her trademark transparency and the juxtaposition of old-fashioned formality with decidedly contemporary varied forms are one of the more transcendent elements that have so boldly stood out over the years and landed her affiliations with Italy’s top design powerhouses like Moroso, De Padova, B&B Italia, Cappellini, and Cassina to name a few.  While Urquiola’s stylistic influences span the globe in the form of hotel and restaurant interiors, retail decor and industrial design, her most recognizable work is still in the form of furniture with the top 5 most recognized designer furniture pieces that helped define her design signature being:

White Carrara Marble: from ancient Rome to the modern home

Thursday, January 16th, 2014

White Carrara marble is a timeless material with considerable historic and geographic significance.  Used since the times of Ancient Rome in renowned structures like the Pantheon and Trajan’s Column as well as in Michaelangelo’s famous sculpture of David, White Carrara marble is mined exclusively from the quarries located in the Italian town of Carrara that’s part of today’s Tuscany region.  White Carrara’s steel-grey veins on a white background make this stone particularly dynamic and attractive in building facades and in decorating realms with growing demand for modern furniture made from this incredibly luxurious material.

The most logical use of White Carrara marble is in modern dining tables like the Monaco dining table by Cattelan Italia, either as the base, the top or both  as well as in contemporary coffee tables such as the Ribbon coffee table by Mauro Lipparini for Bonaldo.

High back modern sofas

Friday, January 10th, 2014

Today’s modern sofas and sectionals are super sleek and minimal, offering streamlined design that is both unobtrusive and functional.  But that does not mean that the high back sofas are not an option for the modern living room.  Among our favorites is the Wafer sofa by Gamma Arredamenti, Prestige sofa by Contempo and Alcove Sofa by Vitra.
