Modern Coat Rack with a Ring to it

Friday, February 11th, 2011

Designed by Zascho Petkow for Atelier Haussmann, Ring modern coat rack features a design that is reduced to its bare minimum by using its structure to both support various objects and be supported (secured) to a wall.  Individually mounted at random or in accordance with a pattern, Ring coat rack also doubles as a wall sculpture with spatial dynamics and clever utility.  The powerful effect of the Ring coat rack proliferates aesthetically when grouped with different diameters and colors.

Complementing Silk Road’s Mediterranean cuisine, Karim Rashid opted to create an opulent atmosphere of cultural sensations, as if by entering the restaurants, guests are effortlessly transported to a Spice & Trade Market.  Karim’s vision was accomplished in part through the use of his signature vibrant and vivid colors reflected in the Asian inspired, tapestry reminiscent patterns.  Another of Rashid’s trademark designs can be seen in the form of organic sinuous lines, forming both the seating and the walls, that fluently integrate different areas of the restaurant, enhancing the restaurant’s experience by inviting its guests to take part in its sensuous, seductive surroundings.

Silk Road features an invigorating lounge with sculptural fiberglass seating designed by Karim Rashid in warm colors that thematically symbolize sand-dunes and compliment the patterned gold-tinted walls.  Dining areas are in a form of bistro style tables, as well as circular private booths for a intimate setting. The colors, materials and shapes that Karim chose for Silk Road are quite telling of its moniker, as with silk being one of the oldest and most luxurious commodities, the restaurant sparkles with understated elegance with the most trivial details reflecting its overarching ambiance.

Roll On – Inspiring Modern Furniture Solution for Small Spaces

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Another great idea from one of Europe’s pioneering manufacturers of modern furniture.  Based in Switzerland, Willisau has made its name known to the world when they introduced the iTable – furniture element that capitalizes on the world’s infatuation with Apple’s i-technology.  Yet with Roll On – a hybrid, multi-purpose piece of functional art or artistic designer furniture – Willisau opted to tackle the space conscious trend that has been gaining momentum in major metropolitan areas and inspiring designers around the world to be resourceful with contemporary furniture that may be placed in small dwellings.

Roll-On is simple yet it is awe inspiring once its full capacities are revealed.  With a simple (hocus-pocus) movement, what is initially perceived as a wall art, turns into a clever seating solution that can be either straddled or sat on.  Imagine that?  Who would not want to show their guests a few tricks?
