Modern Furniture from JSPR

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Jasper Van Grootel, a Dutch modern furniture designer founded his company in 2005 and has made quite a mark on the International design community ever since.  JSPR is a creativity and craftsmanship hub featuring designer furniture that border on the unusual and often amalgamate unrelated elements into a whole that stands differentiated.  Most of JSPR products are relatively simple, a notion that was purposely put forth as a guiding product development principle, yet their quirky nature and disposition that challenges the expected, draws out a sense of pleasant surprise and appreciation for the product and the functional concept behind it.

Modern Cradle with Morphing Abilities

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Presented at the 2010 Ambiente Fair in Frankfurt Germany, The Cradle by Kare Frandsen is a great concept that will attract both designer furniture fanatics and or parents.  Shaped like an egg, which in itself evokes nocturnal instincts to protect, the Cradle is (first) designed to be used as a cradle in both hanging and standing positions, and eventually be transformed into a cool chair once the baby outgrows it and learns to sit.  Unlike many contemporary furnishings targeted to babies these days, this piece will outlast most with its morphing abilities.

Modern Marble and Granite Dining Tables

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

For a very long time Dining Tables, especially modern dining tables made out of marble or granite were very hard to find; most of the time, customers seeking a stone top dining table were driven to custom shops where they paid top dollar for a product that lacked a true design element and the modern day functionality necessary to accommodate changing domestic and interior needs.  Fast forward a decade or two and this product “gap” is more than filled.  Today, the modern furniture marketplace is full of options which include designer stone-top dining tables, modern marble tables and contemporary granite tables.  Such creations come from world renowned designers, and leading European furniture manufacturers like Cattelan Italia, Poro, Cappellini, Zanotta and Draenert.

Rich with elegance, timelessness, chromatic profoundness and durability intrinsic to marbles and granites, modern marble and granite dining tables often integrate glass, chrome and stainless steel into their rigorously geometrical structures consequently realizing an updated look that is bound to also maintain its voguish demeanor.

Ode to Modern Furniture Designed or Made in Spain

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

2010 seems to be an appropriate year (although some may think this long overdue) to accolade Spanish contemporary furniture design.  With ground breaking, most talented and highly imaginative designers and manufacturers, Spain has been declaring its position, starting with the infamous Gaudi and Salvador Dali, as an important contributor to the evolution of modern furniture (very specific) and in a more general perspective, to the overall progress and imapct of European design community on the world.

No longer considered an inferior origin, connotations of “Made in Span” modern furniture, enjoy a favorable intake from the global design community and from customers around the world.  And just like with Gaudi’s century-old Modernisimo movement, Spain today is viewed as a flourishing hub, abundant with autheticity, innovation and design-centric visionary approach thanks to famous Spaniards like Patricia Urquiola and Jaime Hayon.  Touching nearly every aspect of modern interiors, Spain’s network of design-oriented furniture manufacturers consisting of such prestigious names as BD Barcelona, Milmueble, Gandia Blasco, Frajumar, Viccarbe, Nanimarquina and Sancal to name a few, have established themselves as leaders, revolutionaries and progressive protogonists of what modern design is today and what it will look like in the future.
