2010 Milan Furniture Fair Design Trends – Ethnic Prints

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

A loud and colorful interior design trend that transpired at the 2010 Milan Furniture Fair was none other than ethnic and statement prints.  More so in a form of upholstered designer sofas then anything else prints in colorful, whimsy palettes were seen from a mile away (literally).  Exotic, tribal and intriguing, prints were thriving through the masterful hands of major designers like Patricia Urquiola, Phillip Bestenheider and Donatella Versace.  What’s more, with this wild trend, no decorating rules apply, everything is a go; print on print, print and solid, bold and bolder…interior elements with print motifs are attention seeking devises designed to charm, cheer and change their surroundings.

Modern Sofas – Modular Seating is in Demand!

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Representing a truly unique way to decorate the living space, modular seating solutions have become synonymous with comfort, versatility and casual lifestyle.  Today’s rapidly changing environments call for relaxed, unceremonious interior elements that can swiftly fit spatial and functional needs while simultaneously offering unquestionable style and ambience.  With the help of distinguished Italian furniture designers and leading European furniture manufacturers, the choice between a modern sofa or a designer sectional is no longer a permanent decision but one that can be achieved by swapping and moving around the elements of a particular configuration.  The choice is clear, whether trying to add longevity to a highly priced seating configuration or versatility and ability to be placed in the living room, family room or basements than modular seating is the way to go, besides the fact that in lieu of the growing demand of this niche seating category, the array of modern designs and styles is vastly impressive.

Roll On – Inspiring Modern Furniture Solution for Small Spaces

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Another great idea from one of Europe’s pioneering manufacturers of modern furniture.  Based in Switzerland, Willisau has made its name known to the world when they introduced the iTable – furniture element that capitalizes on the world’s infatuation with Apple’s i-technology.  Yet with Roll On – a hybrid, multi-purpose piece of functional art or artistic designer furniture – Willisau opted to tackle the space conscious trend that has been gaining momentum in major metropolitan areas and inspiring designers around the world to be resourceful with contemporary furniture that may be placed in small dwellings.

Roll-On is simple yet it is awe inspiring once its full capacities are revealed.  With a simple (hocus-pocus) movement, what is initially perceived as a wall art, turns into a clever seating solution that can be either straddled or sat on.  Imagine that?  Who would not want to show their guests a few tricks?

Modern Furniture Trends: Decorating with Diamonds

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

It is true that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, at least since 1953 when Marilyn Monroe made this phrase iconic.  But what is also true, is that diamonds are no longer only used to decorate the body but as we found, diamonds are dazzling elements increasingly used in modern furniture décor.  Recognized as such by legendary International designers and leading Italian furniture manufacturers, diamond accents in modern furniture by means of Strass Swarovski crystals is a design trend that is gaining momentum for its ability to transform an ordinary piece of furniture that is high on functionality into a furniture piece that is glamorous, striking and simply unforgettable.  Beating all common association of glitzy with garish, these contemporary furniture pieces are full of elegance, distinctiveness and panache..

Diamond collection by Edra is comprised of Damier Chaise Lounge, On the rocks and Flap Sofas by Francesco Binfare, Getsuen Armchair by Masanori Umeda, Sushi Armchair by Fernando and Humberto Campana, and Tatlin Sofa by Mario Cananzi and Roberto Semprini.
