Viola d'amore Contemporary Marble Dining Set by Cattelan Italia
Viola d’Amore Italian Designer Dining Set was inspired by the archaic and utterly regal music instrument used in royal courts since the Renaissance era. Designed by Piero De Longhi for Cattelan Italia, Viola d’Amore Dining Set mimics the instrument with its many stylistic aspects, elegant proportions and timeless contemporary design that although are traced to century old object, are interpreted in utterly modern demeanor using innovative techniques and sophisticated material applications.
Viola d’Amore Contemporary Dining Table is available in five sizes which include two rectangular versions, an oval version, an oblong version and a free-form curvilinear version. The base of the Viola d’Amore consists of two elements, the “v” shaped composite is available in white carrera marble with white, grayish hues (sourced out of the marble quarries of Carrera, Italy and is the same stone used by Michelangelo for its infamous sculptures of David and Moses and countless other statues, monuments, palaces, and cathedrals created during the Renaissance period) as well as in Green Alps marble with green (dark to light) color and white (greenish-grayish) veins. This marble was highly prized by the Romans for its beauty and can be seen in a form of twenty-four columns placed in the niches of the Apostles in the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome. Green Alps marble was also used to construct the two large tables in the Vatican. The second component of the Viola d’Amore base includes a cylinder which is available in cream-colored travertine, black marquina marble, white carrera marble, or green alps marble. The table top, regardless of the shape of the table is made of clear, tempered glass.
