Dharma Lounge by Palette Industries, aptly named after the Hindu and Buddhist principle that orders the universe, features a powerful (five-word) adage to a balanced living – “Stand, Forget, Breathe, Acknowledge, and Observe” – that not only has significant philosophic implications but a commanding spatial disposition in lieu of its attention-grabbing façade and thought-provoking message.

Roll On – Inspiring Modern Furniture Solution for Small Spaces

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Another great idea from one of Europe’s pioneering manufacturers of modern furniture.  Based in Switzerland, Willisau has made its name known to the world when they introduced the iTable – furniture element that capitalizes on the world’s infatuation with Apple’s i-technology.  Yet with Roll On – a hybrid, multi-purpose piece of functional art or artistic designer furniture – Willisau opted to tackle the space conscious trend that has been gaining momentum in major metropolitan areas and inspiring designers around the world to be resourceful with contemporary furniture that may be placed in small dwellings.

Roll-On is simple yet it is awe inspiring once its full capacities are revealed.  With a simple (hocus-pocus) movement, what is initially perceived as a wall art, turns into a clever seating solution that can be either straddled or sat on.  Imagine that?  Who would not want to show their guests a few tricks?

Modern Furniture Trends: Decorating with Diamonds

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

It is true that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, at least since 1953 when Marilyn Monroe made this phrase iconic.  But what is also true, is that diamonds are no longer only used to decorate the body but as we found, diamonds are dazzling elements increasingly used in modern furniture décor.  Recognized as such by legendary International designers and leading Italian furniture manufacturers, diamond accents in modern furniture by means of Strass Swarovski crystals is a design trend that is gaining momentum for its ability to transform an ordinary piece of furniture that is high on functionality into a furniture piece that is glamorous, striking and simply unforgettable.  Beating all common association of glitzy with garish, these contemporary furniture pieces are full of elegance, distinctiveness and panache..

Diamond collection by Edra is comprised of Damier Chaise Lounge, On the rocks and Flap Sofas by Francesco Binfare, Getsuen Armchair by Masanori Umeda, Sushi Armchair by Fernando and Humberto Campana, and Tatlin Sofa by Mario Cananzi and Roberto Semprini.

Spring is here and with it, so is Easter…and what would Easter be without its defining symbol – Easter eggs.  Because egg is the symbol of rebirth and new beginning, the world’s fascination with it dates back to ancient times, crossing cultures, religions and geographic locations.  The world of modern furniture, spearheaded by some of the most well known design masterminds, is no different and has been celebrating this holiday and its many symbolic connotations with its own unique interpretations of the Egg by incorporating its shape into everything from modern sofas and contemporary chairs to lighting and accessories.

Search Modern Coffee Table by Ezri Tarazi

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

Back in 2007 upon googling the word “table”, Prof. Ezri Tarazi, renowned designer, theoretician, and educator, recognized for his creativity and authentic craftsmanship was inspired by the search results.  Unlike ordinary people who would browse through the countless pages looking for the answer to their quest, Tarazi was driven to epitomize and personify the age of technology and the incredible pre-eminent presence that Google has over our daily life and culture.  Tarazi, wanted to stress the powerful, cross-generational, global and boundless sphere of influence that search engines have become and capture that in a way that only he knows how – authentic, ingenious and as with his other works – with a clear message.

The “Search Table” came to fruition through the incorporation of the first few hundreds images that resulted when the word “table” was Googled.  The images were “sawn” to flat surfaces printed directly upon the aluminum plate, creating the overall modern coffee table structure that is functional, thought-provoking and single-handedly unrivaled with its distinct appeal.
