Aqua Modern Platform Bed by Presotto

Tuesday, June 26th, 2012

One of the tired old clichés related to modern bedroom décor – and there are many – is the alleged maxim that ‘there is no such thing as a perfect bed’.  And while we completely agree, I think we may have found one that is darn close to perfection, at least from its unbelievable appeal to the masses (even with its steep price point).

Color Splashing Interiors with Modern Rugs

Monday, June 25th, 2012

Today’s interior design is increasingly leaning towards monochromatic palettes, consequently casing accessories to take on the crucial role of color splashing their surroundings.  This is particularly evident in modern living spaces decorated with all-white furniture.  While a monochromatic décor scheme evokes tranquility and serenity, it also leaves lots of room for personalization.

A perfect example of how to infuse monochromatic interiors with color without overpowering them is through modern designer rugs by Nanimarquina.  These exquisite creations transcend chromatic qualities by also offering textural intensity and dynamic versatility.  Rugs like the award-winning Little Field of Flowers by Tord Boonje or the exclusive De-Lo-Rez Rug Collection by Ron Arad that also extends to seating collection that’s produced by Moroso.

Modern Rugs to Celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

Tuesday, June 19th, 2012

As the second longest reigning British royal, her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II made quite an impact on her country and the world though her 60 year rule.  Albeit indirect, her majestic influence is inevitably integrated into interior design in various forms, but nothing is quite as literal and modern at the same time as the Stamp rugs by Rug Maker that replicate the Royal Mail stamps to a tee.

Featuring the Queen’s prominent profile which is embossed for a multidimensional effect, Stamp rugs are infused with a bright colored, single tone background, outlined by scalloped edge periphery.  The overall combination of details creates an authentic effect that objectifies the Royal Mail postage stamps into modern rugs and furthermore, into an extraordinary modern art and wall décor element.

New Trends – Milan 2012 Furniture Fair

Monday, June 18th, 2012

As with every year, the much anticipated Design Week held annually in the trendiest spot in Europe, lived up to its expected design climax.  New trends in modern furniture design and contemporary interior décor were prevalent and inspiring (as always) encompassed everything from new shapes to new materials and new utilities, albeit the ailing state of global economy.  Below are a few that were pretty consistent and highly noticeable throughout the fair grounds and across the who’s who of modern design biosphere.

Color Stained Wood Finishes – following the successful craze over colorful lacquer finishes that have been used over the past year, color stained wood was a natural progression, as was the case with Pianca’s new wall unit collection.

Natural Woods – while walnut veneer continued to remain extremely popular, solid walnut with natural, irregular edges was realized in the table top seen in the new Ikon and Ikon Drive dining table by Cattelan Italia.

Blue Color – cool tones of blue, aqua and cobalt were carried over from last year and was incorporated into one of the most eye-catching creation, the 36h modern armchair and 56h designer chaise lounge by Fabio Novembre for Driade.

Ethnic motifs – rich and eye-catching, ethnic motifs from all corners of the world were reinvented through sleek structures and incorporated into various surfaces including chaise lounges, table tops, and headboards of beds.  One of such inspiring trends was incorporated by Yaroslav Galant into a console and modern bench.
