A Sensorial Chocolate Experience

Wednesday, June 26th, 2013

For the chocolate lovers and lovers of modern design, it doesn’t get any more thematic and sensorial then the 100% Chocolate Cafe located in Solamachi (“sky town”), a retail complex adjacent to Japan’s tallest structure and the 2nd tallest structure in the world.  Designed by Masamichi Katayama of Wonderwall, this little confection spot is all about the Chocolate, triggering all five senses through its brilliantly personified interior design and impressive attention to details.  The experience begins with the “open kitchen” concept where the vast array of chocolate blocks and cacao beans are converted into delectable sweets.  The library-lab-like display of 56 different types of chocolate blocks and 22 types of cacao beans from 17 different countries in glass showcases adds scientific craftsmanship to the entire process and an appreciation of the artistry involved.

Sunday, June 23rd, 2013

Contemporary in style and full of modernist propensities, the Maestro round dining table by Costantini Pietro is a must have in the modern kitchen.  Maestro’s exclusive design pays homage to mid-century modern movement with its exposed, geometric base that’s dramatically revealed through the clear glass center, and framed by the high gloss lacquered perimeter.

Beat Lighting Collection by Tom Dixon

Saturday, June 22nd, 2013

Designed by Tom Dixon, Beat is a collection of modern pendants in four shapes that offers simplicity and versatility at once.  Inspired by the hand beaten old brass pots and traditional water vessels that are carried on heads in some parts of the world today, Beat pendants can be used as stand alone or in various cluster compositions including linear or round, single or multi-leveled.  Handcrafted in the Indian city of Moradabad, everything about the Beat pendant series is a contradiction.  Synthetizing bygone craftsmanship with modern applications, ruggedness with cheerfulness, black patina exterior with rich golden interior, wide, fat, tall and stout are stylistic apropos for just about any interior design and style in particularly modern environments.
